Section 1-4: Military, Tourism, and Alternatives to Hawaii's Economy
1. Describe this statement: The military has been and still is an economic force in Hawaii.
- The statement above means that having the miltary in Hawaii is still providing us money because of the Department of Defense contributing the $3.5 billion annually to the state.
2. Describe the growth of tourism according to pages 320-327.
- There wasn't much in the beginning because pretty much everything was agricultural , and there wasn't much room for the public. However, after certain companies started service to the mainland from Honolulu, tourists astarted to gome along, Planes started to evolve, becoming more fuel efficient, and because of it, the fares dropped like crazy, making tourism go out of the roof for Hawaii.
3. Read through the pros and cons of tourism. Which side do you tend to agree with?
- Pros, definitely. Tourism has affected Hawaii in such a positive way, and it shouldn't be totally irradicated just because of a few technicalities here and there.
